BCEN Governance

The Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing (BCEN®) is a not-for-profit certification corporation that is managed by a Board of Directors and operates with the assistance of volunteers and staff. The Board of Directors maintains the business and financial aspects of BCEN and has oversight of all activities pertaining to the quality, content, marketing, development and maintenance of exams and the certification process.

BCEN staff members implement Board directives and manage the day-to-day business of the organization. The staff is led by the Executive Director who reports to the Board of Directors. (Figure 1)

BCEN staff also work with the Examination Construction Review Committees (ECRCs) who oversee exam development and content. ECRCs oversee the Item Writers, who create the items (or questions) for the exams. (Figure 2)
