2017 Distinguished CFRN® Award Winner Named

The Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing (BCEN®) and the Air and Surface Transport Nurses Association (ASTNA) awarded the 2017 Distinguished CFRN Award at the Critical Care Transport Medicine Conference (CCTMC) in San Antonio, TX. The award, presented annually, recognizes a CFRN or CTRN who has shown outstanding support of the certification process in flight or critical care ground transport nursing.

Bambi Pish-Derr, DNP, RN, CFRN, CCRN rose to the top from a prominent list of nominees and was named as this year's recipient.

As the Clinical Director and Chief Flight Nurse for Angel MedFlight Worldwide Air Ambulance, Ms. Pish-Derr has exemplified a high level of commitment to certification with her unwaivering effort in achieving 100% crew member certification of flight nurses (CFRN) and flight paramedics (FP-C).  Patrick Powers, CFRN, remarked that Bambi has been their voice to senior level management on the education of the value of certification. "Her efforts resulted in support from the organization for obtaining and maintaining our certification", he further commented.

"Certification is valuable to me, because it demonstrates my personal commitment to my patients, my peers, my company, my profession, and myself.  To become certified you must be willing to accept a certain measure of risk. The test is difficult, it is not inexpensive, and it requires you to be dedicated to preparation.  Individuals who are willing to commit themselves to the process, especially when it takes more than one attempt to achieve success, are the type of focused  healthcare workers I want to be associated with", Ms. Pish-Derr stated.

She regularly shares her knowledge with those she manages. The company plans to host a flight review course this year, for which Bambi was among the first to volunteer as an instructor.  Mr. Powers added, "Bambi exudes both humility and excellence. She is the most talented and inspirational leader I have ever had."

Congratulations, Bambi! You are most deserving of this award.
